How to get a High-Security Registration Plate for used cars?
A new rule mandated by the Delhi Transport Department. It is now compulsory to get an HSRP. All vehicles, new and old, have to get HSRP. In
Old license plates were easy to remove and created problems, But what is an HSRP? HSRP stands for High-Security Registration Plate. These plates come with permanent locking snaps ups, which are hard to remove. These private car registration plates have come as a replacement for old license plates.
Some of the reasons are:
Cars with old license plates were easy to steal. Once stolen, the robbers could easily remove and replace the license plate. Then, it was nearly impossible for the police to locate the car.
Even the owners used to change the license plate numbering for a reduction in taxes.
To curb all these practices, the government came up with the concept of HSRP.
High-Security Number Plate Registration comes with permanent snap locks. That makes it impossible for robbers to change the license plate. It also has a unique tracking chip installed with the number. Upon installation with the car, it acts as a link to the vehicle.
These plates were duly mandated by every transport authority, citing it as necessary. Introduced with a vision of providing safety to its owner, HSRP acts as an anti-theft material. So even if someone stole your car, you could easily track the robber with the help of these plates.
Made of aluminium, these plates have an Ashoka Chakra on the top left corner. HSRPs also have ‘INDIA’ written at an encrypted angle.
The link lock system makes it impossible for anyone to hamper the vehicle number plate.
The link system stores information such as Vehicle model, number, and license information. This information is maintained in the central database. Therefore, it comes in handy in a situation like a robbery.
Sometimes, the owners of the car style their license plate according to the font of their choice. Therefore, it makes it difficult for the traffic police to read & identify it. High-Security Registration Plate follows a standard font that is easy to read.
HSRPs make it difficult for owners to provide misleading or wrong information about the vehicle.

A high-security number plate is a license plate made of aluminium or steel with a unique laser code, hot-stamped chromium-based hologram, and non-removable snap locks. These plates are designed to ensure the security of the vehicle and prevent counterfeiting or duplication.
Obtaining an HSRP aids in gathering essential data on vehicle specifics, such as engine and chassis numbers, and storing it in a single database. The authorities may locate your vehicle using this information and the pin on it.
The HSRP must only be built of aluminium and equipped with two tamper-proof, non-reusable security locks. This implies that if these locks are broken, the number plate cannot be reattached; instead, a new one must be purchased from an authorised store.
All automobiles (including those sold before April 2019) must have a colour-coded sticker and an HSRP. The current deadline for all car owners to get a High-Security Number Plate is July 2022.
